Water School: In Session
Join us for a day-long communal exchange to explore our many-faceted relationships with water and the land as we celebrate our ambitious new exhibition, Oscar Tuazon: Water School.
12pm: Honour Water – An Anishinaabe Water Blessing
Together we’ll open the day with a live, guided sing-along that will remind us of our sacred connection.
1pm: Water School Hands-on
Build your own recycled structure, engage in creative play, and share your ideas about community and sustainability in our photo booth.
3pm: Sustainable by Design: A Roundtable with Oscar Tuazon, Steven Mankouche, Tim Singel, and Jerry Garcia
This discussion will address various building methods and materials being explored by engineers, architects, and artists to minimize our impact on the environment.
4pm: Community-led Open Exchange (Breakout Sessions)
Join these group discussions with guest artists, educators, architects, and activists to share your experiences and ask questions on the following topics:
- Empowering Youth for Present Action: How do we know when to get out of the way and let young people lead the way?
- Organizing a Participatory Public: How do individuals from different social backgrounds and geographic locations coordinate efforts toward a common goal of environmental sustainability?
- Not-So-Simple Solutions for a Sustainable Life: What does sustainability look like? It depends a lot on where (and when) you live.
6pm: I'll Call Back Later
Jessyca Mathews will round out our day of art-making, singing, and conversations with a reading of her poem, I’ll Call Back Later, which reminds us that the fight for clean water is still being fought. Jessyca is an English Teacher at Carman-Ainsworth High School in Flint, MI.
