The Other September 11th: The Battle of Chile Film Screening

In conjunction with The Edge of Things: Dissident Art Under Repressive Regimes exhibition and a week before the Broad Underground Film Series screening of Patricio Guzmán’s Nostalgia for the Light, the MSU Broad and the MSU Latinx Film Festival (LxFF) will show Patricio Guzmán’s The Battle for Chile, widely considered one of the best political documentaries ever made on Wednesday, September 11th in memory of the U.S.-backed military coup that took place in Chile on that day in 1973. The Battle of Chile documents the political tensions and social struggles during the dramatic months leading up to that dark day for democracy in Latin America and the world.

A continuous screening of the film starts at 12:30pm with a short introduction by Scott Boehm, Assistant Professor of Spanish and LxFF Director; Ed Murphy, Associate Professor of History; and Laura Romero, Ph.D. Candidate in Hispanic Studies.

This event is offered as a collaboration with MSU Latinx Film Festival and in connection with The Edge of Things: Dissident Art Under Repressive Regimes on view at the MSU Broad through January 5, 2020 and Nostalgia for the Light: Broad Underground Film Series.
