Habibi Dancers

Sunday, Jul. 21, 2019    2–3pm

Are you curious about the how and why of Middle Eastern Dance? You’re invited to join local dance troupe—the Habibi Dancers—for a performance of Egyptian Sai’di/Ghawazee and Saudi Arabian Khaleegy style dance. We’ll take a look at some of the interesting subtle differences of these regions of a dance that has been performed for thousands of years. The performance will also include a brief history of the regional dances performed, as well as examples of historical (reproduction) costuming and traditional music.

Registration for this event is encouraged, but not required. Click here to register for this free event.

The Habibi Dancers have been a local non-profit for over 30 years, performing educational and entertainment engagements throughout the Greater Lansing Area. Learn more here → habibidancers.org

The Habibi Dancers Workshop is part of the Community Open Call, an experimental platform that invites the community to become a central figure in the planning process for the arts and cultural programming offered at the MSU Broad Art Lab. This initiative is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. Apply for the Community Open Call here.

Held at the Art Lab, located directly across the street from the museum at 565 E Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI 48823.
