Educator Workshop: Be/Longing + Placekeeping

Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020    9am–12pm

Be/Longing + Placekeeping: Womxn of Color Revolutionary Love Letters

What does it mean to teach from a place of love? Middle and high school educators are invited to join Tamara Butler, Ph.D., assistant professor in English Education and African American Studies, for a workshop that will explore the concept of belonging through written and visual messages.

In connection with the collection exhibition, Visual Citizenship, Butler will lead discussion, reflection, and a hands-on activity that encourages educators to mobilize notions of care through letter writing and collage. Learn about women of color writers, build skills in critical textual selection, and understand various ways creativity can be engaged as activism through a lens of deliberate responsibility toward one another. SCECHs are available.

Online registration for this event is required. Registration includes a breakfast of bagels, coffee, and tea. Click here to register.
