Listening to Seeds: Artist Feature with Vivien Sansour

Saturday, Jun. 12, 2021    7–9pm

In 2014, Vivien Sansour founded the Palestine Heirloom Seed Library in an effort to preserve ancient seed varieties. Since then, her work has been dedicated to the core belief that “agriculture is truly comprised of both ‘agri’ (traditional farming practices) and ‘culture’ (the associated lifestyle/livelihood traditions essential to a community’s identity).” For this virtual gathering, Vivien will screen her 2012 film The People and The Olive: The Story of The Run Across Palestine. She will be joined by director Aaron Dennis and other collaborators, delving into the story of the film while also touching on current events and the ongoing struggle of Palestinian peoples in the preservation of their land and culture. The related exhibition, Seeds of Resistance, is on view January 16 – July 18, 2021, at the MSU Broad Art Museum.
